For a number of the blog posts, I’ve been putting the ship’s route up as the post’s image. However, the route from Kodiak to Seward was more vertical than horizontal:
Another paid-for excursion today - Kenai Fjords National Park by Boat:
Enjoy Alaska’s Abundant Wildlife and Glacial Wonderland Up Close – Unwind during a scenic boat tour and enjoy pristine nature and plentiful animal life from the boat. Be captivated by the rich marine wildlife; these glacial waters are home to sea otters, porpoises, sea lions and a variety of whale species, including the killer whales that also reside in the waters of Kenai Fjords National Park. Discover some of the 191 species of bird that have been documented so far. A national park since 1980, Kenai preserves the fjord and rain forest ecosystems and wildlife while conserving the area’s historic and archaeological remains. Dip into sizable fjords and cruise beneath awe-inspiring mountains exceeding 6,000 feet in height. Admire the park’s many glaciers, and get an up-close view of the looming face of one of these icy giants. The seemingly harsh terrain of the Kenai Peninsula is also home to many terrestrial animals that can be spotted from the boat’s deck.
So … yesterday’s excursion was 6 people, 5 hours and a big wow factor. Today’s excursion was 6½ hours and, as it turned out, 106 people. And the wow factor? Well, for a start, the route taken on this excursion was a lot longer - 118 miles compared with 23 miles:
Let’s see how the photos turned out …
Yep, pretty much wow, Wow, WOW! So much wow that I felt I had to do a montage video as well:
Sea otters, sea lions, goats (!), hump-back whales (!!), porpoises (!!!), bald eagles, glaciers … just wow!
After dinner in the World Cafe, we decided to watch another movie in our stateroom. This time, we picked “Poker Face” starring Russell Crowe as Viking were showing it the next day at 1pm. A rather slow film to get going and, in places, hard to follow but, ultimately, an enjoyable story and one that wraps up with this quotation from Russell’s (lead) character:
“Don’t be glass half-empty or half-full people. Be the kind of people who know whatever trial or disaster comes along, you can always refill the glass.”
