Today, we woke up to dense fog around the ship and the fog horn sounding.
This was possibly not the ideal start to a day focussed on visiting the Hubbard Glacier. We had been informed that there wouldn’t be any announcements over the tannoy due to the effect it would have on nature, so hearing the fog horn made me wonder if that would stop us seeing the glacier.
I need not have worried. The fog cleared and we could see land! We could also see another cruise ship ahead of us - the Norwegian Spirit. It was sailing towards another fog bank …
Then the fog continued to build as we crept slowly towards the coastline:
And then we were through the fog … and what a view!
We had to wait for the Norwegian Spirit to finish “her turn” at the glacier and move out before we could get any closer.
Then we spent about an hour with the ship slowly rotating to allow all of the passengers the opportunity to take in the view. What a desolate, wild but natural space!
That was the morning - and what a morning! By lunchtime, though, we were sailing out away from the glacier and on our way to tomorrow’s destination, Glacier Bay.
There was trivia today but the rest of our team didn’t turn up so our score was 9 out of 15.
The rest of our day was spent blogging, chatting, drinking and eating! Steak again at the World Cafe for dinner and we (re)watched Murder on the Orient Express (the Kenneth Brannagh version).
